Report: Only 37-percent of merchants are EMV ready

A February report by The Strawhecker Group — a payments consultancy — found that only 37 percent of U.S. merchants are EMV ready when it comes to accepting credit card payments.

EMV stands for Europay-Mastercard-Visa, and represents the small computer chip found on credit cards. Cards must be held inside the terminal when processing an EMV transaction rather than being swiped.

An EMV deadline for non-fuel merchants went into effect Oct. 1, 2015. This deadline shifted the fraud for a fraudulent transaction over to the party that was not EMV ready, which in most cases is the merchant.

ATM TLS deadline is March 31

Any ATM on internet communication will stop working afterMarch 31 if it doesn’t have the right software installed and TLS settings enabled. This only affects ATMs processing over the internet. It does not affect ATMs processing over a phone line or cellular box.

For the past six months, we’ve been updating ATMs in our fleet to ensure software is up to date and TLS settings are enabled.

If you own an ATM that is processing over the internet, please call us at 855-764-2867 to ensure your ATM’s software is up to date. If not, there is a chance your ATM could stop working after March 31.
